Illuminating Perspectives: The Visionaries of Light

The Light Artists featured in Ecolight are pioneers who explore the dynamic interplay between light, space, and perception. Through diverse media and innovative technologies, they transform natural and artificial light into immersive experiences that challenge our understanding of reality and invite us to engage deeply with the environment around us. Each artist brings a unique vision that highlights the poetic and scientific dimensions of light as both a material and a metaphor.

ALESSANDRO LUPI

Melding cognitive science and aesthetic invention, Alessandro’s art probes the complex relationship between light and how we perceive space, crafting site-specific installations that transform public environments into immersive sensory experiences.

Alessandro Lupi is a visual artist born in Genoa and currently based in Berlin. His research explores the relationship between light and cognitive processes, while simultaneously pursuing a strong aesthetic sensibility. Each of his works carries a spirit of invention and investigates the perception of reality and the space around us, focusing on the dialogue between matter and light.

He has exhibited internationally with numerous site-specific installations in public spaces and institutions, including the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Uffizi Gallery, the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm, and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.

PIETRO PIRELLI

A master of multisensory immersion, Pietro fuses music, physics, and digital technology to ‘play’ light as a tangible, oscillating force. His installations resonate through architectural and natural spaces, blurring boundaries between sound and vision.

Pietro Pirelli is a visual artist and performer whose work fuses music, light, and the physicality of materials. Deeply rooted in gesture and sensory experience, his art explores the oscillatory beauty of phenomena like pendulums, water waves, and sound vibrations. A founding member of the AGON electroacoustic center in Milan, he has long investigated the expressive potential of digital technologies in dialogue with natural elements.

Pirelli creates immersive installations and musical performances that transform sound into visual form, often inhabiting architectural or natural spaces. His works have been exhibited in India, South Korea, Japan, Germany, France, and throughout Italy, including at the Venice Music Biennale, Fabbrica del Vapore, and the Light Art Biennale in Mantua.

James Dimech

Merging architecture, fashion, and sustainability, James transforms recycled materials into sculptural garments that echo the precision of origami and the elegance of haute couture. His wearable art pieces—crafted from plastic, paper, and metal—challenge conventions and reimagine waste as beauty in motion.

James Dimech is a Maltese artist and designer whose practice blends architecture, fashion, and sustainability. With a background in interior and set design, he channels decades of experience into the creation of sculptural garments made from recycled and upcycled materials. Influenced by origami and three-dimensional design, his work explores the tension between form and structure through hand-manipulated techniques that give waste materials a new visual language.

Since his debut in sustainable fashion, Dimech has represented Malta in Miss Eco International, showcased his collections at Altaroma, and exhibited in events across Europe. His garments—crafted from paper, metal, and fabrics made from recycled plastics—stand as statements of ethical elegance and aesthetic innovation.
