The first event of Spotlight, a traveling initiative dedicated to the Culture of Light, took place on Monday, January 27 at 5:00 PM at the Fuseum – Museum of Brajo Fuso, Perugia.

Promoted by the Italian Design Institute (IID) and the CariPerugia Arte Foundation as part of the ECO-Light project (Eco-System Lighting the Innovative and Green Heritage through Technologies), Spotlight features a monthly seminar across six museums. It serves as an exploration into the importance of light in art, culture, and the building of a more sustainable future.

The event opened with remarks by Benedetta Risolo, ECO-Light project manager for IID, and Gianmaria Fontana di Sacculmino, curator and artistic director of the Fuseum, a museum founded by physician and artist Brajo Fuso to “give a home to his creatures.” This was followed by a contribution from Fabrizio Croce, Councilor of the Municipality of Perugia for Tourism, Historic City, Live Performance, Urban Creativity, Cultural Associations, and Night Economy.

The seminar was led by Marco Frascarolo, civil engineer, lighting designer, and researcher. He is head of the LFT&T Lab (Technical Physics and Technology), professor of Technical Physics at Roma Tre University (Department of Architecture), and coordinator of the Lighting Design Master's Program at Sapienza University. He is also the founder (2001) of the company Fabertechnica.

Frascarolo gave a compelling talk on how artificial light can transform the nighttime environment, from individual spaces to outdoor areas and entire cities. He focused on strategies for balancing environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness with visual quality, safety, and the enhancement of cultural and environmental heritage, while preserving a sense of community and creating new social spaces.

The event concluded with a musical performance curated by the Giulio Briccialdi Conservatory of Terni, featuring flutist Valentina Antonelli.
