A new vision of Light.

Sustainable. Site-specific. Transformative. Interdisciplinary

Ecolight is, first and foremost, an ambitious challenge: bringing the Culture of Light to the forefront of contemporary design, engaging with all its inherent themes and complexities.

While Light Art has historically been associated with energy-intensive works, today’s artists must embrace environmental sustainability and compatibility. They are called to respond consciously, drawing on their experimental nature and pioneering access to new technologies that enable reduced energy consumption. This approach sets a path toward a more responsible use of light.

The design of green and low-impact light-based works—achieved through intelligent technological solutions and the enhancement of natural light—embodies the contemporary existential paradigm of artistic illumination.

The artistic focus is on enhancing both the tangible and intangible heritage of Central Italy, particularly its natural and scenic wonders, historical and architectural treasures and the established local traditions that define the unique value of the Umbrian territory.
The project aimed to enhance three areas, strategically located in the Centre of Italy where Partners are based, in the following areas interested by UNESCO: Perugia during Umbria Jazz Festival (Unesco immaterial Heritage); Marmore Falls Park (Unesco natural Heritage); Fabriano Creative City (Unesco urban Heritage).

The interventions are entrusted to internationally recognized artists who create site-specific, environmental installations aimed at elevating the uniqueness and complex identity of the chosen locations. Each artist begins with an in-depth study of the site—respecting and celebrating its history, spirit, and context—and then selects the most suitable tools to reshape the viewer’s perception through the ephemeral drawing of light.

This intangible presence, subtle yet transformative, guides audiences through an immersive and innovative experience. It evokes wonder and gently cradles them in a dreamlike state of contemplation.

The strength of these works lies in the diversity of techniques employed and the multiple layers of meaning each one offers. Alongside their immediate visual impact, they present a stratified narrative that merges environmental, cultural, and poetic themes.

This unified expressive language appeals to all audiences—regardless of their cultural background or personal sensitivity—inviting each viewer to embark on a personal and collective journey of awareness, enchantment, and discovery.

From energy-intensive spectacle to sustainable vision: the new paradigm of Light Art.
